Sculls

Welcome to the Sculling Section

In 2011 Teign Scullers Rowing Club merged with The River Teign Rowing Club.  Established in 2004 as a small ‘fine boat’ rowing club, we now provide recreational sweep and scull rowing to all, regardless of ability, fitness or age. We now have:-

Two coastal quadruple sculls Endymion and Admiral Nelson
A coastal sweep four
Three sweep fours:- lightweight, middle weight and heavyweight.
Two quadruple sculls
Two double sculls
A sweep pair
Four standard single sculls and
Four stable single sculls

This section of the club has grown tremendously, with many newcomers discovering the pleasures of rowing. Generous grants, from Awards for All, have allowed us to acquire new equipment and support our continuing expansion.

In 2009 the club started to develop a more structured training and coaching program. It includes race nights during the week, to supplement the weekend outings, and training sessions at a local gym, for those interested in taking their rowing further.

We compete in local WEARA races in singles, quads and fours.

New members are always welcome, whether they have never tried rowing before or have some experience of sliding seat/fine boat rowing. If you’d like to come and join us, please check the latest rowing schedule for outing times, or contact Teign Scullers for more information.

Safety

Rowing and sculling are outdoor activities, so it is important to recognise that contending with difficult weather conditions, other water users and using different waterways is all part of the sport.  Rowing has an excellent safety record, but it can be easy to become complacent.

'Row Safe: A Guide to Good Practice in Rowing' provides clubs and individuals with guidance on a wide range of safety topics, education and training.  It acts as a basis on which clubs can responsibly develop safe practice, tailoring them to their specific rowing programme and local waterway.
